Allie used sign language on her own for the very first time this weekend!
We have been practicing with her for weeks and weeks, but could never get her to mimic the gesture and apply it to the correct context. She would just look up at us with those big brown eyes like we were silly circus clowns, circling our fist arm across our chests for weeks on end. According to her teachers, Allie gestured the "puuuhhleeeaaase" sign all day, to different teachers. It is amazing to see her face light up as she grasps "cause and effect" and the process of communicating with other folks.
Next up? We will help her learn the signs for more, thank you, and stop. Finally, we will focus on the ever important lesson "just because you ask nicely for something, doesn't mean you will always get what you want." Ironically, Matt and I are still trying to learn that lesson ourselves...
